Abortion is wrong. We, the people of the United States of America, should fight against abortion. In this essay you will discover why you should do so.
The first reason we should fight against abortion is that it negatively impacted historical society. Even before the Roe vs. Wade decision in 1973, both legal and illegal abortions took place around the world. Ph.D John W. Klotz wrote a book on abortion.
The earliest records of an abortive technique go back about 4,600 years to an
ancient Chinese work…which prescribes the use of mercury to induce an
abortion.[3]
As evidenced in the previous quote, mercury was used in some ancient abortions. Other harmful substances were ingested to cause abortions as well, and would sometimes cause the death of the woman. “In 1815, a British doctor wrote…that abortions were tantamount to suicide.”[4] As you can see, abortions were dangerous. (and still can be, as you will discover later in this essay).
Abortion was not the only danger babies in history faced, however. Infanticide also occurred in ancient cultures. In the Bible we see examples of how God judged societies that murdered children.
And they have built the high places of Tophet, which is in the valley of the son
of Hinnom, to burn their sons and their daughters in the fire; which I commanded
them not, neither came it into my heart.
Therefore, behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that it shall no more be called Tophet, nor the valley of the son of Hinnom, but the valley of slaughter: for they shall bury in Tophet,
till there be no place.
That text of scripture (Jeremiah 7: 31-32) shows us that God did not like it when the people of Judah sacrificed their children to false gods. God is holy, and he hates sin. Infanticide and abortion are no exception, and God judged them.
Not only did abortion negatively affect history, it is also hurting modern society. That is another reason why we should stand against it.
One of the things abortion is promoting is irresponsibility. Why should people practice sexual abstinence before marriage if there is no responsibility to take if they don’t? Why should she worry about getting pregnant when she can simply abort the child? Indeed, abortion is sometimes used as birth-control. Does this irresponsibility really benefit our society?
Abortion is also hurting women’s health. The effects can be devastating.
Some have suggested that abortion can increase the chance of developing breast cancer. Also, women who have had abortions may have problems if they ever become pregnant again, such as delivering their baby prematurely.[5] But physical pain is not the only problem abortion causes. Listen to this testimony.
I had an abortion 12 years ago, and I have suffered from it since the day it was
done. There is no grief worse than losing a child, unless it is knowing that you
have intentionally killed your own, out of sheer selfishness. I have had
nightmares, flashbacks of the procedure including the physical pain I
experienced, and periods of severe depression. I am still taking 3 medications
for depression and anxiety. I wish I could go back in time and take it all back
- but we can only move forward.[6]
Some women claim that they do not regret their abortion; perhaps some truly don’t. But there are many women who recognize that they are guilty of murder, and some of them have given testimonies like the one above. Tell these women that abortion isn’t harmful, and hear what they have to say.
So abortion was detrimental to society in the past, and still is today. But another reason to stand against abortion is that it will affect the future. What could the effects of abortion be if it is allowed to proceed unchecked? None of us, as humans, can know what will happen five, ten, or a hundred years down the road. However, we can extrapolate.
If many Americans today don’t think the life of an unborn baby is worth saving, what could this country look like in fifty years? Will this be a society that allows euthanasia of the elderly, or perhaps even infanticide? Could America become a country that eliminates certain ethnic groups because they are thought to be of lesser value? These ideas may seem far-fetched, but in a society where life has little or no value, much wrong can be committed. However, even more could happen.
How long will a righteous God allow this sinful country to endure? God will judge sin, and America may suffer deeply if it continues on its current path. It is not a guarantee that things here in the U.S.A. will go on as always, unhindered. By murdering unborn babies, and in many other ways, this country is crying out for judgment.
As you can see, abortion has negatively affected society in the past, present, and will continue to do so in the future. I implore you to fight against it. Charge the enemy like the soldiers on Omaha beach did in 1944. They protected millions of Americans. Will you do the same?

You made some really good points! How did you get the quotes to look all professional? That's pretty sweet.
Thank you.
If you're writing in Microsoft Word and you want to get footnotes, click on "insert" on your toolbar, and when a window opens there move your mouse to "reference" and then in the window that opens then you should see something that says footnote. You can actually get a button on your toolbar in Microsoft Word that allows you to insert footnotes. of course, this information might not help you because for all I know, you might not even have Microsoft Word on your computer. But if you do, I suggest writing your essay on that and then copying and pasting it to your blog. Feel free to ask me or my dad about footnotes next week in class, though my dad would know more then me.
Wow! You have some awesome points totally persuasive! Great Job!
good job!
